2023 Review and Impact!
Rubies is pleased to present our annual report for the year 2023-2024, highlighting our ongoing efforts to support and empower the youth of Milwaukee. With the support of our donors, partners, and dedicated team, we have made significant strides in providing crucial services to young individuals in need throughout our community.
In the past year, Rubies has served a total of 20 youths, comprising a combination of individuals under court orders, referrals from WRAPAROUND programs, and private-paying youth from diverse backgrounds across the city of Milwaukee. Our multifaceted approach emphasizes intervention, awareness, and prevention, focused on sex trafficking in Milwaukee. Our program addresses the unique needs of each participant to foster positive outcomes and long-term success.
Key Achievements
1. Housing Assistance: One of the most significant achievements of the year was successfully finding housing for a youth who aged out of the system and transitioned into independence. Through collaborative efforts and resource mobilization, we provided vital support to ensure a stable living environment for this individual, laying the groundwork for a brighter future.
2. Basic Needs Support: Recognizing the importance of addressing fundamental needs, Rubies has consistently provided essential resources to the youth we serve. This includes hot meals, warm clothing for the winter season, and school supplies, ensuring that every young person has access to the tools necessary for their well-being and academic success.
3. Hygiene and Period Products: In addition to meeting basic needs, Rubies is committed to promoting health and hygiene among our youth. We have supplied hygiene products and period products, ensuring that these essential items are readily available to support the physical and emotional well-being of our participants.
4. Care Bags for the Homeless: As part of our commitment to community outreach and service, Rubies initiated a program to create care bags for the homeless population in Milwaukee. These care bags contain essential items such as toiletries, non-perishable food items, and warm clothing, providing practical support and compassion to those experiencing homelessness in our city.
5. Educational Sessions on CSEC (Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children): Rubies hosted three educational sessions at the Wauwatosa Library in Milwaukee, focusing on Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC). These sessions aimed to raise awareness, provide information, and engage the community in discussions about this critical issue, empowering individuals to recognize signs, prevent exploitation, and support affected youth.
